Stainless Steel 317 / 317L Pipe
High Molybdenum Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel Pipes
SS 317 Pipe is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel with greatly increased resistance to chemical attack as compared to the conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 316. Grade 317L is a low carbon version of 317 which provides resistance to sensitization during welding and other thermal processes. It is often used in pulp and paper mills and flue gas desulfurization systems.

Features and Benefits of SS 317 Pipe
- Superior corrosion resistance in acidic environments, especially phosphoric and sulfuric acid
- Higher Molybdenum content (3-4%) improves pitting and crevice corrosion resistance
- Excellent creep and tensile strength at elevated temperatures
- 317L grade prevents sensitization from welding for enhanced reliability
- High ductility and fracture toughness for complex piping layouts
- Exceptional performance in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems
- Resistant to pitting by sulfurous and acetic acid environments
- Non-magnetic behavior even after cold forming or welding
Applications & Uses
Pulp & Paper
Essential for digesters, bleaching plants, and stock handling equipment in corrosive environments.
Air Pollution
Used in scrubber components and flue gas desulfurization systems for power plants.
Petro-Chemical
Ideal for process equipment in chemical plants involving strong acidic fluid transfer.
